Picked up the magazine. They had this article on male vs. female applicants which was kind of scary. I didn't realize that the acceptance rates for genders are so different at schools that are trying to keep the balance 50/50. For instance, 44% of males get accepted at W&M and only 26% of females do. Bleh...I'm not sure if I think that's right. But then again, I don't think I'd want to end up at a school with vastly more females.

I've heard about that. It freaking SUCKS! Now, not only am I a white person living in the suburbs, but I am of the higher-achieving gender, as well. Damnit.
But yeah, you're right... it would be terrible to have like 80% girls. But STILL!

Some schools do that with ethnicity too.
I'll be honest, a good way to try and choose is to look at what you are going to be dealing with directly.
Are you going to be living on campus? If so, check out what the dorms look like. I've talked to some people who have said the showers are really small and some days they would be ice cold and others really hot in some buildings. Also some people complain they cant sleep because people next door to them are making too much noise. So look into those rules.
Transportation is also really big. Since I doubt theres no snow in California lol you wont have to deal with that but walking is a huge pain in the butt and I go to a somewhat small sized school, compared to like state colleges and stuff. Smaller campuses and smaller class sizes are always better.
The thing that I used to choose over others was the amount of money they were going to give me lol. I know that sounds stupid but I'm paying for it myself, my parents arent helping. So even if they are, maybe try to save them some money? haha.

Oh, good luck! Tell us how it goes Jackie, I don't know about the small school thing... obviously small class sizes are better, but I kinda don't want to go to a college that's smaller than my high school. It seems like a college should be bigger. One school I'm looking at seems really cool, but I kind of have reservations that there are less than 2000 undergrads total...

^ I know what you mean. Coming from a small high school (about 115 in my class), I don't really want to go to a small college. I also want a school with a really awesome football team so I can go to games . Not exactly the best reason to pick a college, but oh well. My top pick is Penn State. I already sent in my application, and it's a rolling admission process, so hopefully I find out soon.

I'm loving school so far! It's been much easier than high school, which is very suprising. It's just nice to not have every class each day, it makes getting homework done a lot easier. Basically college life is the bomb.

Do you live by a college whose games you go to? Since I've grown up with Virginia Tech football I don't think that's stupid at all. Only two of the schools I'm applying to (Tech and UVA) have teams, which is depressing.

I totally wouldn't even notice if the college I went to didn't have a football team.
