Am I the only one who considers cover bands one of the most pointless things on earth?

Am I the only one who considers cover bands one of the most pointless things on earth? Considering 95% of the bands in existance started out as some form of a cover band, not really. Craziest thing, which may be difficult for you to comprehend, nobody wants to hear what you have to say. They want to hear songs they know by bands they know which is exactly why every band in the world (i don't care how conceited they are or if they say otherwise) knows enough cover songs to do a full set.

Ohhhh yeah But, copying someone else to an EXACT degree and pretending to be them, rather than do your own material is a bit silly, I mean sure if people want it, go ahead, but copying a lnog dead band seems a bit wrong to me, like, they're gone for a reason, so why re-do their stuff? Like if you did your own versinos of the sogns, or the sogns in different styles, which can be funny, OR, songs in their style of your own, that's alright, but copying them completely? Seems like ttrying to re-kindle something that's dead for a reason. I mean, I love Floyd, they absolutely feckin rock, but they split up for a damned good reason, and trying to re-kindle their magic by copying them seems a bit silly. And, Reagan, if you say no one wants to know or I'm a todger or some such I will be forced to go off on you, and you don't want that ^_^ And, yes, I want to hear songs I know by bands I know, but not from someone who isn't that band.

A permanent cover band isn't the greatest idea and when doing covers i always believe in tearing the ass off the original (Higher Ground-RHCP, All along the watchtower-Hendrix, Darling Nikki-Foo Fighters...Etc,etc..). But to say that in any way having a cover band is stupid is a bit redundant since you gotta learn other peoples songs before your own. I love to play my own stuff but i know people wanna hear the standards and ultimately its fun to play other peoples music, especially when you can barely remember how the song goes and the band just improvs.

Most definitely but bands that just recycle the same songs in the same way suck butt.

In the Dallas area there is a great Floyd cover band called "Bricks in the Wall". I would have chosen a better name for a cover band, but going beyond pass the name, I think Floyd would be proud of their sound.

I never really get into tribute bands, honestly. Don't know why.
