My friend is the drum major and she recruited me for sideline. I'm so scared that I won't be able to learn all of the music.

Well I wasn't involved in band. That's why it's scary...I didn't even know what a marimba was until a few weeks ago and now I'm playing it.

*Whispers* I'm not really sure.
Besides being able to read music I know hardly anything about marching band. Being on sideline means that I don't have to march...the irony...and I guess I just play a variety of instruments that are set up the same way...marimba, xylophone, bells, etc. Apparently sideline people are known as being less hardcore than the regular people...they have less work and therefore less respect. It'll be a real learning experience, that's for sure. The band director is really hardcore and I'm so afraid that I'm not going to know what to do and she's going to think I'm stupid. She'll say something and I'll have know idea what she's talking about...oh well.

I'm really starting to freak out. The first time we play is on September the first. My friend said that I didn't even have to look over the music yet, but how does she expect me to learn it all in a week? Rarr...so I'm trying to go over it a little bit. I'm really worried that I won't learn it in time. Oooo did I mention it's all music for West Side Story? I love it...

I played my first game Friday. I feel really stupid because we got to the game and realized that we hadn't packed our instruments in the school's trailer thing. Luckily someone brought mine, but they forgot my friends and a student teacher had to run back for it. I was all worried that I was going to have to play alone. I was decent I guess...I nailed the solo which is what I was most worried about. Still a lot of room to improve before the festivals.

First competition was yesterday and I CHOKED. I was so nervous I thought I was going to fall over...I screwed up the solo, too. Luckily we still got a superior ranking and one best music and marching in our class. I felt so awful, though, it was miserable.

LOL..I'M A BANDIE TOO! i'm on the drumline...i'm a cymbal player. and at least u get a week to work on a song. one time i got a bus ride...a freakin 25 minute bus ride....to learn/memorize a 15 measure complicated piece for a competition parade. i did ok i guess half way thru i dumbed the piece up but it still sounded good. I love marching band. I'm trying to use it for a college scholarship. and i'm considering becoming a band or a drumline director becasue i'm a percussion player. cymbals for parades for concerts i'll play anything that needs to be played...like the triangle. or suspended cymbal. u will learn to love band believe me.
