What are your favorite composers, songs, and eras?
I love Edvard Grieg. My favorite songs are Pachelbel's Canon in D, Bach's "Little Fugue" and "Toccata and Fugue", and Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata". My favorite era is probably the Romantic Era.

I love Pachelbel's Canon in D, My orchestra played that when I was young. Bach's suites for unaccompanied cello is another favorite. I love Grieg too. Way too many to list.

I only developed an appreciation for classic music because of A Clockwork Orange (heheh). I usually don't like music without lyrics, but sometimes if you're working and you have to concentrate but you want something in the background as well, music without lyrics (like classical) is good to listen to.

Anyone heard "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procal Harom? Such a great song...they sampled Bach's "Air for the G String" in it.

Edvard Grieg seems quite popular amongst people! I like his piano works, especially Wedding Day at Troldhaugan. And who can forget Hall of the Mountain King..... classic. Not really in to Bach, more of a Handel kinda guy. I also have high respect for Chopin and Rachmaninov, geesh I wish I could play piano like that! Dvorak has done some interesting works, as well as Liszt.

Haha, my teacher has the corniest sense of humor. She says this notepad that says "Chopin Liszt" and she said the other day, "Alright guys, do you think you have a "Handel" on the baroque era?" I'm a sucker for cheesy jokes though. Anyhow, yes Grieg is awesome...I swear that I can't leave this earth until I can play one of his songs (can't recall the title right now...it's just a bunch of tempos and the key signature). Oh "The Pines of Rome" is a great song, too (or suite perhaps?)...can't recall the composer.

She says this notepad that says "Chopin Liszt" I've seen those before. Corny but funny. I like Beethoven, Bach pieces played on guitar, Liszt, Stravinsky esepcially the Firebird Suite and The Rites of Spring, Percell and Webern. I have Frank Zappa's orchestral cd with music he did with the London Symphony Orchestra performing his compostitions. I might get some of his other ones he did in that style as well. I was thinking of getting the one he did with Pierre Boulez, "The Perfect Stranger" and the experiental one he did with the Ensemble Modern, "The Yellow Shark." I always loved Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King. Hall of the Mountain King was actually covered by a few rock bands. Janis Joplin's band Big Brother and the Holding Company had a version, the Who have a version on the Sell Out remaster and Rick Wakeman from Yes quoted a few bars from it on one of his solo albums.

Wow...I didn't know that. I would be interested to hear some of those versions. I was obsessed with that song in elementary school (still like it). I do like Firebird, too. Are you sure it's by Stravinsky? I could have sworn it was someone else. Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens is a really great song...the band here is doing it...they're doing the violin part with an alto sax, though. Finally heard some Chopin...amazing stuff.

I love Handel and Mozart Vivaldi's fun to sing to, too. "Ladumus te...Benedichi mus te...Adoramus te. Glorifica. Ah...." Yes, I'm having fun.

I love singing in Latin. I don't think I've heard any of Vivaldi's choral works, though. Have found the most obnoxious classical song: "Bolero" by Ravel.

Debussy is my new love. And you're right, Firebird is Stravinsky. They actually did the ballet here a few weeks ago. My friends went and said it was awesome.

I don't particularly have a favorite composer.
I absolutely love Pachelbel's Canon in D, Pavane by Faure, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, and Sicilienne by Faure. All amazingly beautiful!

one thing I think some of you should look at is a thing done by Alexi Laiho the guitarist of Children of Bodom its called Passage To The Reaper and in it him and his friend are performing a movement of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. They do an amazing job at it I believe.
