Umm... i'm a beginner to playing the guitar, and was wondering, how do you read the tabs?

The numbers on the tab represent the fret that your finger is placed on. Each line of dashes represents a string. The bottom one on the tab is actually the string closest to your face, so it's slightly backward in a sense. 0 is an open string, X means the string is played, but your fingers are resting on it and not allowing it to resonate, producing a percussive sound.

a lot of tabs use numbers along the dashed lines. They stand for which fret to play.
EDIT: BUT learn to read real music!!!
