Kurt Cobain would never be in the top 3 or even the top 50. There is so many way better guitarist out there then him. Sorry thats how i feel. Here is my top ten 1. Jimi Hendrix 2. Jimmy Page 3. Stevie Ray Vaughan 4. Eric Clapton 5. Jeff Beck 6. Randy Rhoads 7. Tony Iommi 8. Zakk Wylde 9. Keith Richards 10. Pete Townshend Yes, I definitely have to agree with that. I love Nirvana and Kurt was a great songwriter and singer, but he was not awesome at guitar. I'm not really familiar with a lot of guitarists, but here is mine from what I know (in no particular order): Jimi Hendrix Eric Clapton John Petrucci Richard Jessee Steve Vai Yngwie Malmsteen Jimmy Page You put Malmsteen above Jimmy page?

Fair enough. But putting Malmsteen in the same class is just wrong

Hell, I don't even remember writing that. If you look back it was me who wrote that original comment that I ended up disagreeing with.

Fair enough. But putting Malmsteen in the same class is just wrong Apples and oranges. Page was a better songwriter but sloppy as hell, whereas Malmsteen is a far more technically advanced player but cannot seem to do anything but play Paganini influenced shred.

Apples and oranges indeed. But I don't like shred, I find it a poor excuse for music. Just like that whole 'LOOK HOW MANY CHORDS I CAN PLAY IN A SECOND, AREN'T I AWESOME' school of thought. Fast and talented guitaring aren't the same by any means.

Certainly not, but speed takes talent.

No, it doesn't. I have no talent with instruments but I could jam out several chords a second, it just wouldn't sound good.

If you had no talent then you wouldn't be able to play the chords.
But still, just because you can play fast it doesn't make you a good musician. But also, if you can play fast... you could also be a very good musician.

No, it doesn't. I have no talent with instruments but I could jam out several chords a second, it just wouldn't sound good. Several chords each second wouldn't sound good, but doing arpeggio runs at a high speed (which is exactly what Malmsteen does) does sound good.

Yes, but as I say I have no particular love for shred and when I was speaking about the \,LZJLASJAOJ LOOK HOW FAST I AM shit I didn't mean Malmsteen.

I mean.. give a newbie a guitar and tell him/her to shred.
