Makes sense to me. The way my brain works, scales seem like puzzles where I can actually see the shapes show up on the fretboard. The whole mix and match concept is interesting as I've never thought of it like that. For me, it's always been a matter of learning the tones on the fretboard and understanding where they lay in relation to the others to get certain sounds and what causes them and why. I'm the same way with the pentatonic but have done my best to commit the other scales and modes to memory in the same fashion for that reason...to play without having to really think.

No, all my theory study was done by myself and with my teacher (which is why my sight reading lacks...should probably work on that.) but I would totally recommend it. Theory is your best friend if you're a musician and, in my opinion, will totally take you to an all new level. Great advice there. It's awesome to be able to know how to describe what your hearing in your head, and have another musician play exactly what you had heard. You study and study theory, but when you know it, it just sort of fades away into the back of your mind and almost subconsciously drives what you're doing. Or, at least that is how it works for me.

Exactly. It demystifies music in a way. You know when you're driving and you're trying to get somewhere and you know EXACTLY where to go? And not only that, but it makes sense as to why you get there? It's like that. And you know the surrounding area well enough that you can take the scenic route if you please.

I noticed that the more I studied it, the more I was just playing without really thinking so much, but rather what I felt. Instead of sitting at a note and picturing what spots around the fretboard sounded good to move to from there, I was just doing it and more picturing what I could do to add something in that perhaps doesn't even fit in theoretically, but improves the piece in some way.

I can't seem to get away from either A or D minor - I prefer the natural minor ascending and the harmonic descending...especially when used in a 12 bar blues form.
I mostly like blues and boogie - like 'Roadhouse Blues' and after that I like tarantella style tunes done in triplets in either 6/8 or 4/4 time.
I prefer flats over sharps but still the less of either, the better.

I like phygrian, harmonic minor and melodic minor but chords hold more emotion than scales for the most part
I like suspended 2nds like Asus2 maybe combined with Csus2 or Cmaj7 or Fmaj7
Also I guess you can call this a Bm7add9, but it is beautiful e--0- b--2- g--2- d--0- a--2- e-----
I also absolutly love chromatic chord progressions like in stairway to heaven E-------5-7-----7-|-8-----8-2-------2-|-0---------0------|-----------------| B-----5-----5------|---5--------3-------|---1---1-----1---|-0-1-1----------| G---5---------5----|-----5---------2----|-----2---------2-|-0-2-2-----------| D-7-------6--------|-5-------4----------|-3---------------|-------------------|76543=chromatic A-------------------|----------------------|------------------|-2-0-0---0--/8-7-| E-------------------|-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|
