I just realized how prejudiced my family is against non-Catholic Christians. Other religions are fine, but not Christians who aren't Catholic. Kinda sad.

I never really understood how Catholicism differed from other types of Christianity anyway, other than just everyday customs and such. Is there a basic difference in the beliefs?

Historically, Catholics believe that salvation comes through being a good person and following Christian doctrine. Protestants believe that it comes through faith and that no matter what you do you will still be saved if you believe in Christ as the savior. I'm not sure if that is still the case, though, for Catholics.

Catholics venerate the saints and Protestants don't. Catholics are more "artsy and symbolic" in a way. Along with what Sarah said. In core, it hasn't changed, but the actions have.

That´s where the Pope was born (about 15 km away from my hometown): www.marktl.de/en/index.phpAnd this is where Hitler was born (just over the bridge from Germany to Austria, about 2 km from my parent´s house): www.braunau.at/
